There were some, but not a total reconstruct like some bands get. CITAS was actually filmed over 5 nights. Louie told me that he has copies of those shows. Three of these were used for the record. So, it would appear that they tried to capture the best of the best.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread but I was actually at that concert and what they did was play Picture Perfect live first, and then Michael told us that they were recording a live album and asked if we minded they play it again for a "music video".

It's the music video version that ended up on the VHS tape and it is also the same version that was released as a cassette single. I'm not sure if he dubbed the vocals, but they definetly "added" some type of sequenced stuff to the chorus.

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about the technicality of recording, however, I can tell you that John did not record additional vocals for the Farewell CD, but filled in where the original was lacking. I don't know what the term "absolutely live" means, but that IS the term John used to describe the CD. When I asked him if he was happy with it from a technical standpoint (because he was kind of ticked about the omissions of Judas Kiss and Lord I Lift Your Name), he said, "Yes, because it was absolutely live." When I said something about going back into the studio the next evening to re-sing he said it wasn't enough to count, just fill in.

I would guess "absolutely live" means the album sounds exactly how it sounded to the audience that night. In other words, any overdubs were used only to "repair" the audio, not artificially spice it up.

that information is precious. do you remember if the "music video" version sounded the same as the one they just had played?

No the "music video" version was different. The short guitar solo/changeup in the middle is removed and the chorus is "spiffed up" with all that synthizer sequence crap. It is pretty much the same as the "Picture Perfect" cassette single that was released.

Now that I think about it. Maybe it is possible they played a soundtrack (of the radio remix or whatever it was) and karoake'd it (did the vocals). Unfortunately I was too far a way to tell if they were actually "playing" their instruments.

A couple other notes. The concert opened with a wonderful instrumental (synth) of "Agnus Dei" and then they cut into "Picture Perfect" at which point they stopped and did the "Music Video". M.W.Smith also did "Love Crusade" (a fav of mine) which never made the VHS release as well as "Thy Word" which also never made the VHS release.

You can see a small clip of "Love Crusade" during the in between sections. During the concert it sounded like he ran out of breath during the mid-rappin' part (no surprise, it is long). So I would not be surprised if that was why it was removed.

As for the "absolutely live" stuff. I have a question about it that I will pose later when I have access to the materials I need.
