CIT(optional A or ampersand)S SOUNDS COOL!!!

Post by yamasaaaki har har » Fri Feb 24, 2006 11:00 pm

I'm probably one of the few Petheads - or maybe the only - who hasn't listened to the entire Captured CD until today.

Captured was really interesting. I have never heard the "real" John Lawry until I heard this. His keyboard stuff really blew me away, and there was definitely more of it here than on any studio album. As a matter of fact, I think keyboard was more prominent than guitar on this album. I think this performance of "J-J-J-Jesus Loves You" is better than the one on Farewell. But the guitar seems mixed into the background - unlike Farewell where the guitar is pretty dang loud.

The solos are the best part. Before I got this CD I had already heard the three clips that I downloaded from a website - which I first heard about 4 years ago and was totally amazed. Now it's nice to hear the rest. "The Race" in John's solo is unbelievable. I also loved the key solo at the very beginning of the CD right before "Beat the System."

Drawback is, I wonder why they just played the exact same "Visions" and "It Is Finished" end solo as found on the studio albums? I think that detracts from the "newness" and spontaneousness of the live performance. (especially when the cd has to end with the pre-recorded "It Is Finished" solo) :( Plus, "Hollow Eyes" was so well-played but why put those annoying radio-tuning sound effects at the beginning?

I like when Greg says, "What are you, a bunch of fanatics?" and "Stop this world and let me get off!"

The prelude and postlude are the same recorded tracks from the record. They played them at every show for years. It was great. The lights would be out. The tracks would roll. The band would walk on. People would be taking prohibited pictures. The flashes would go off around the stadium. The fog machines would kick in, and boom they hit the first note and the lights come up. Fans go nuts. I was there. So to www.petrarocksmyworld.com and see my picks from that tour.

The radio scanning thing was also a track. In the background you can hear Louie Weaver's click track in his drum monitors. The click is a four count on the intro only.

I know the whirr-whirr-boom-crash-telephone dial thing on "Beat the System" was straight off the BTS album, as well as the "Hollow Eyes" radio sound. But you also said the keyboard deal right before "Beat the System" (at the beginning of track 2) was pre-recorded too?
