Whoah dude, how about naming some albums? I can't listen to them all.

Are you talking about Pedro The Lion?

Well he certainly is rather sarcastic. Especially when he said "I think that the pretense of Christian music, and the actualization of Christian music, is pretty much an abomination to God.... I actually think it would be immoral for me to sign with a Christian label because I think what the Christian labels do is antithetical to the gospel".

He did two record "A Sun Came" and "Enjoy Your Rabbit". The 2nd of which was derived from the Chinese zodiac "Year Of The Ox", etc. So which album should I try?
Jonathan wrote:Terry Scott Taylor
Looks like he made quit a few records there.
Jonathan wrote:Jason Martin
Are you talking about Starflyer 59?
Jonathan wrote:Sup the Chemist
Well he only released one album, so that's an easy choice. Although he is rap. Probably not my type. ;)
Jonathan wrote:Ojo Taylor
He sure jumps around a bit. Are you referring to the "group" Underground?
Jonathan wrote:Brennan Chaulk
Are you referring to Haste The Day? You really need to be more specific. Just naming group members is a little tedious.
Jonathan wrote:Michael Roe
"fat Elvis in Vegas, ready to die".... Hilarious..
Jonathan wrote:Steve Hindalong
Are you referring to his solo record? Or his work with The Choir?
Jonathan wrote:Brett Detar
This one was a little harder to find. Are you talking (again  ) about The Juliana Theory?

"If I Told You This Was Killing Me Would You Stop?"

Altar boys? :?: :?: :?: His solo work? :?: :?: :?: Or Clash Of Symbols?

Most of them lyrically seem to lean toward the poetic side.. (human nature as opposed to commentary specific politics, or religious beliefs, etc). At least best I could tell from what little descriptions I read. So are you saying they are similar to Steve, lyrically and musically. I forgot to mention the somewhat parodical nature, and culture references as well. Anyways if you could name any specific albums or songs by these people that stand out as examples, that'd be great.

Although some of these look like they may be hard to find.

So which Steve T albums have you all listened too anyways?

These are songwriters and artists that have a wide array of simple, poetic, heartbreaking points and bits in their music. I get the idea and the gist of their songwriting and their worldview from listening to them for a long time, and to a variety of their words. To point to one single major slam dunk is difficult. None of them really have a "I Blew Up the Clinic Real Good" or "Come on in, there's room for one more." But they step outside of the box of what is traditionally Christian music, to make you think beyond the spoon in your mouth. Its the artistic and poetic side of Christianity that you won't often find anymore.

Steve Taylor is one of a kind, but I would put people like The Choir, 77s (fat Elvis comment and all), and I can't believe I forgot Bill Malonee (Vigilantes of Love...try "America"), Daniel Amos ("Father Explains") right along side him. Sup the Chemist speaks a TON about the traps and downfalls of the Christian Music industry. He's released at least two solo (Dust and Eargasmic Arrangements)albums that I know of, and was really the Petra of Christian rap. Sufjan Stevens covers a lot of areas, which doesn't necessarily mean he believes in the zodiac, and there are, in fact, a lot of parable-style songs in his catalog. Altar Boys? Very social and politically conscious. Social Distortion, after their conversion, did the same thing.

These guys reach me on a personal level.

I could go on, but the proof is taking time to listen, looking at the message, and not picking tidbits from a song here and there.

What?!? Not even an album or two that really sticks out in your mind? You've gotta have some favorite albums..

Or are they songs you've heard over the year which you do not have anymore?

Well if I happen to stumble across them I'll give them a listen or two, or three, or four.

As for the Japanese Zodiac comment. I have no problem with that. It just didn't strike me as the type of album that would have relevant cynical commentary about political or religious issues.

Something alot of these artists seem to have in common is a certain disgruntlement with the christian music industry. Even S.T. does. It's amazing the number of artists who have been tampered with by the industry. Very annoying?

You never asked for favorite albums. Don't react with incredulity that I haven't answered questions you haven't yet asked.

77s - Sticks and Stones
Choir - O How The Mighty Have Fallen, Wide-Eyed Wonder, Circle Slide
DA - Kalhoun, Mr Buehner's Dream, Doppelganger
Pedro the Lion - Control
Vigilantes of Love - Killing Floor

Etc.

I've heard that attention span is inversly proportionate to age.

Man is it hard to find stuff in the usual places. It's amazing the entertainment industry just does not self-implode with the kind of junk the manage to get on actual shelves. You'd think they would come up with a better distribution system. Grrr...
