Even the most listeneed too CCM station in the country lost money last year and they predict losing money this year or at best breaking even. In the Dallas market the 2 most listened too radio stations are talk or sportstalk and their market share grows every quarter. I'll be honest and I tell you I really can't think of anybody off the top of my head that listens to radio; I might listen to the ticket every so often or catch a Ranger game if I'm not at home but that is about it. Radio is dying and will not exsist in this form in 4-5 years. Petra and the other artists need not care what radio thinks anymore they don't drive anything anymore. U2 is releasing all their singles (Off their latest) via internet now and not releasing them to radio and I know others will follow suit.
Ahhh. But you have to look at the cycle. If U2 were starting from scratch today, as virtual nobodies, then an internet release would be worthless. U2 had radio, MTV and years of college city touring, at the right time, to reach their status. Now they have the draw (possibly) to pull people to the internet.

If what you are implying is correct AND correct for all, then the whole industry should be reversed, with all of the indie and oldies releases being available on the internet only.

Remember, radio primarilly sucks only in the US. In most other English speaking countries, radio is crucial to reaching the masses.

Stations themselves may not have the revenues, but that has nothing to do with listenership. That has to do with ad sales. Ad sales are down in all media forms, because there are more players. It is more competitive all the way around. Networks however, like ClearChannel, Cox, etc are making huge profits. The losses that they are claiming are in PROJECTIONS. But they are still very profitable over all.

Clear Channel was clearly in a loss all quarters of last year and the first quarter of this year. We were selling off some of our radio stations to them but couldn't get a deal because of these reasons.

1. Clear Channel has overwhelming debt.
2. Their ad revenue is flat at best and they are actually charging less for ads than last year.
3. The FCC probably would have nixed the deal anyways because they are too big as it is.

BTW point #2 is basically for all FM radio right now and it doesn't look like it will get any better. AM radio is actually making headway with profits and listenership is holding its ground.

On your point about indie/new artists is correct; I think they are all doing it backwords and also an artist like Petra should be doing it that way also. I feel if Petra did it that way and really push it in the foreign markets Petra would be very successful, but I think poor managment and the US market as had alot to do with Petra's downfall. I know it would take alot of hard work on Bob and John's part but I think it could work.

It's funny that I read these messages, about prayng for John and the other band members. Just last night, they came to my mind and I prayed for them. I mentioned to my Father how they trully have glorified him in their ministry, and how their music is still impacting people. I know my God is please at their work, and know that he has GREAT plans for each one of them.

I will continue to keep them in my prayers!

By his Grace:

John said to let you all know that he REALLY and truly appreciates all the prayers on his behalf.

If you have any words of encouragement or personal prayers, feel free to send me an email. I will pass it on to him, as I have all the others that have come my way.

Message to John...

Post by Carolina » Fri Apr 28, 2006 10:26 am

Well, "Show me the Way" has been a song theme of mine (and my 5 year old son). The message in the song is trully how we should approach our requests/ heart to Him. John, as this song encourages me (and throws me to my knees in brokeness), I have only to say continue your heart in humbleness to him that LOVED YOU SO MUCH, he Gave his Son for you (us). You have NO IDEA how your music has drawned me close to my Savior; may he continue to lead you to his will and bless you!

Carolina :wink:

Psalms 86
10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.

11 Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.

12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.
