The data is on the CD, why wouldn't it?greenchili wrote:What I'd like to see, assuming that CITAS sells well, is maybe on one of the other video tape releases some type of petra discography, maybe with a few notes to go with each album. Possibly even samples of each song.
It's perfectly possible with today's pc software. In fact for my own personal use I'll probably throw something together. I got a few neat ideas for using the Xbox 360's virtual light machine among other things. It's just a matter of getting of my lazy butt.
Believe it or not the Xbox 360 recognizes petra CD's! I put Not Of This World in a couple weeks ago and it knew which album it was and the titles of the tracks.

The Data in most cases is not on the CD the CD's serial number is looked up in the CDDB there it downloads the track names etc and cover art copyright info etc (Assuming your xbox has the ethernet cable plugged in). The only case where the cd has track info is when it has be pressed for CD Text for the old Sony text display playersbrent wrote:The data is on the CD, why wouldn't it?greenchili wrote:What I'd like to see, assuming that CITAS sells well, is maybe on one of the other video tape releases some type of petra discography, maybe with a few notes to go with each album. It is called CD Text, and it IS included on RedBook CDs. It wasn't limited to Sony players, etc. Whether your player shows it or not is a different story.danielaussie wrote:The Data in most cases is not on the CD the CD's serial number is looked up in the CDDB there it downloads the track names etc and cover art copyright info etc (Assuming your xbox has the ethernet cable plugged in). In the old days, Sony licensed this, just as they did the CD itself, and people pay(paid) for the rights.
Yes there are websites that can be accessed, and databases searched by title. It is not by barcode.

According to Louie and Greg, it was not Star Song that lost tapes. They might have misplaced SOME, but the video production company used went belly up, and THEY lost the masters. Both Louie and Greg have virgin copies of the two nights of CITAS, AND the previous week's trial runs. Louie said that the previous shows were actually better, but the audio wasn't multi-tracked, because these shows were more for blocking, getting their shots, etc.Mountain Man wrote:Well, Bob Hartman (a.k.a. PetraFounder) did say that StarSong "lost" the tapes. The quotes indicate to me that he really doesn't believe the tapes were lost. Either StarSong still has them or the tapes were deliberately destroyed.greenchili wrote:It's a shame [the master tapes] were lost.
Star Song no longer exists. Star Song's assets were purchased. So Darrell Harris is not sitting on anything. Also, the labels do not retain the masters usually. The studios usually keep them. The labels are given a copy of the master. Why? Because studios most always never get paid on time, if at all. So it is held for payment. So, anything that is "Digitally Remastered" is usually nothing more than a copy of the master, like a CD, DAT, analog 1", 1/2", 1/4" tape copy of a copy. Because the label will not release the virgin copy of the master that they have. All I can say is that Louie and Greg did some sweet talking to get the copies that they have.
I will say that Christian record companies and secular companies began learning a hard lesson in the late 80's and 90's, when new multitrack tape formulations for hotter recordings were not holding up. The oxides would be released by the adhesives on the mylar (tape would fall apart). Much of the industry did not have their tapes in proper climate/humidity controlled environments. Morons like Integrity, Word, Star Song, all of the mom and pops had the masters stored in their president's and AR guy's garages or sheds. They melted, mildewed, etc. They should be shot for their lack of knowledge and for trying to save a buck, because it robbed future generations of good music.

The 360 pulled the cd information from a database. I only had it hooked up to the internet once, before I even put the petra CD in the drive. My 360 has a hard-drive but I do not know if microsoft put the information on that, or the 360 downloaded something from the internet the ONE time I had it on my network. I'm not really sure where microsoft gets the information from, but I was impressed that they had the foresight to include that feature.

Oh and I agree about the companies not taking care of their properties correctly. It wasn't till fans of the medium started preserving what they could and it was discovered that there is interest that they even started caring. I've seen this happen with the movie industry, the christian music industry, arcade cabinet industyr, and the gaming console industry.
It's really a shame. I think only the secular music industry has really made any effort to preserve older music. But it is really bad in the CCM scene which is relatively new (believe it or not). Alot of stuff was never even released on CD. Just cassette or LP only.

I highly doubt that CD-TEXT is present on the disc. I have over 200+ christian CD's and I've only run into one or two discs that had that information on it. (I think it was a nichole nordman disc). I have a 200 cd carousel player that can read that information and I've never seen it show anything for my early petra discs. How A CDDB Works
CDDB was designed around the task of identifying entire CDs, not merely single tracks. The identification process involves creating a 'discid', a sort of "fingerprint" of a CD created by performing calculations on the track duration information stored in the table-of-contents of the CD. This discid is used with the internet database, typically either to download track names for the whole CD or to submit track names for a newly-identified CD.
Since identification of CDs is based on the length and order of the tracks, CDDB cannot identify playlists in which the order of tracks has been changed, or compilations of tracks from different CDs. CDDB also cannot distinguish between different CDs that have the same number of tracks and the same track lengths.
Critics charge that the field listings for CDDB are inadequate for the inclusion of proper identification of classical music recordings. So far, this issue has not been adequately nor uniformly addressed.

Hey guys... I just posted an article about the DVD over on petrarocksmyworld.com. It includes the cover art (just slightly different from the original), etc.
Other details... price: $14.99 ... date: June 5 (approximately) .. special features: none (not even the BTS video, which would have required purchasing another license)

That's pretty much what I was expecting. This is just a straight transfer after all. A pity about not getting the Beat the System conceptual video, though, even if it was pure 80's cheese.Kirkman wrote:Other details... price: $14.99 ... date: June 5 (approximately) .. special features: none (not even the BTS video, which would have required purchasing another license)
