At any rate, I hope to get this DVD soon, but money is really tight at the moment. I just hope it sells well enough that it's still for sale when I finally get some money to spend!
And the LP even has less songs! Right? I can hear people saying... What's an LP?
In fact this makes the ONLY album I purchased on cassette over LP because of that. Actually I think there may have been one other album.

I have two different vinyl versions. The European vinyl release omits the talking Greg does between Godpleaser and It Is Finished... I also have special Australian vinyl single with The Great I Am. Perhaps someone could some time create a CITAS 2CD as a compilation of all the different audio sources (CD, cassette, LP and DVD), but that would probably take to much time to be still fun to do.

Personally, I would love to see a deluxe double CD release of
Captured in Time and Space featuring the cassette version of the concert, but I know that'll never happen.

I started working on that a while ago, but haven't had time to work on it since the baby came. For the most part the cassette has more, there are a couple of cases where the video (I guess I should say DVD now) has things that aren't on the cassette. For example, the extended version of Without Him We Can Do Nothing.
There are lots of subtle things missing from the CD. Mostly talking, but even little snippets from certain songs. Like Speak to the Sky is missing a little, and the intro to Judas Kiss is shortened. As was mentioned, John's solo and Louie's solo are edited, and GGRARTY was shortened to the point where they might as well not have bothered putting it on the CD. Although the cassette version doesn't have verses either. Greg's message has been shortened quite a bit (Whaddaya wanna be?) and of course, The Great I AM is not on the CD at all.

Interesting.. I'll have to check around and see if I still have the cassette version of CITAS.
I remembered the other cassette that I purchased. It was for a concert as well. "The Big Picture Tour".
I played those two tapes so much I wore the label off on em.

Do you mean to tell me you're runnin' to Lamu?!?!
I still love that album. In fact, when I met MWS at a concert on the "Live the Life" tour I told him that I still thought The Big Picture was his best album. He laughed and said I would be surprised how much he still hears that.

I had CITAS on cassette and was sorely disappointed to find out many years later that the CD didn't have as much material on it. This of course was after I busted the tape on The Great I Am and went looking for the CD
for that song.

Well, I got it in yesterday, and I've already watched it twice. The first time, I was more watching my son, and playing with him and listening to it more than anything. There was quite a bit I'd forgotten from watching it before. I didn't remember Greg playing the guitar at the end of the Praise Medley. I didn't remember Mark playing the "keytar", but that had been discussed earlier. I didn't remember all the extra stuff in "Without Him We Can Do Nothing" which is not on the CD. Lots of stuff on the video that is not on the CD. But then the video cuts Computer Brains and Speak to the Sky and all of the song intros from the beginning.
I used to use the word magical when describing Petra's concerts, but I think a better word is annointed. The annointing was all over Petra and their shows during this time. A great concert to watch even today.

I just got mine and it's awesome! Too bad the Beat the System video wasn't included, but I'm sure it had something to do with the liscence.
Anyway, The cover are is great and the fact that Bob went as far as putting artwork on the DVD itself was a nice touch. Too many times I've bought DVDs and they have nothing on the actual disc.
Thanks again Bob!

Got mine.
The first time I got to see Petra live was on the On Fire! tour - i was a fan before that but lived in Alaska then and you don't get a lot of tours up there...
Anyway, so I've never seen Greg live before this.
Man, was he cheesy. He physically acted out the words he was singing. "You might see me stumble," and he stumbles. "You might see me fall," and he falls over. I'm surprised he didn't pull out a pocket knife and do a little digging on "Hollow Eyes"... Sorry, Greg. You were awesome on vocals but some of those moves should've been self-edited.
But besides those amusing visuals, this is a wonderful piece of history. It's interesting to compare the band on the whole to how they were with John a few years later. They're a lot more static here on stage. The main reason is probably that Mark Kelly doesn't command the stage like Ronnie Cates did so well (and so much). And John Lowery went mobile in the later years - here he doesn't have the opportunity and stays standing at his keys.
The band also just put on a better produced, flashier show in later years too. Better lighting and better stage sets. But you can do that with bigger bugets.
No Mickey drums for Louie yet, here.
It annoyed me that one the guitar solo they didn't have the cam on Bob's fingers - we don't want to see the back of the guitarist on his solo guys. Bad directing! Oh well.
But overall you can't argue with the pure quality of the music here. I always thought that CTAS was one of the better live albums I ever heard and it sounds just as good here, even with some of the funny clothes and body language. It's great to get a chance to actually view this one, and it really does "capture" a piece of time and space at a pivital moment for the band.

I got my copy today (posted to Australia). I love it. The quality is awesome having come off the VHS version. Great nostalgia for a lifelong Petra fan (CITAS was the 2nd Petra album I ever owned).
I hope that Bob, Louie, John, Mark and Greg don't look at what they were wearing that night.

You need to see the "More Power To Ya" tour available on trodland's site. They move around alot more than you think. Well, at least kelly and lowry. Bob tends not to move around too much.
My guess would be that due to the concert being officially taped, maybe they were told by the producer to not move around too much.

Another thing, wireless technology was barely available back in the days of BTTS and before. In fact, I noticed on Trodlans site and the BB tour, they still used wedge monitors as opposed to the now used earpieces. Since the feed was diffrent to every monitor, you took a chance of losing the ability to hear your own voice/instrument when wandering.
On the More Power to Ya Tour, we noticed no one ventured into Bob's "Space". Somehow guitatists only need to hear snare, bass drum and themselves.

I talked to a freind later who stood in front of the stage on Bob's side and said that the guitars were awful loud. That never saeems to change from one guitarist to another.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the monitor thing. Also I was thinking BTS was more synth oriented (aka programmed) so it probably afforded Lawry very little room for moving around. Once they started getting away from that he probably had more leeway for moving around.
It'd be interesting to see what comments Bob has regarding having to play that synth guitar during that tour. From they way some talked the guitar was pretty lame.
I got my discs today. Just opened up one real quick and popped it into the DVD player to take a quick look at the menu's. Nice to see they at least added chapter stops.
It's just like everyone said. The packaging is very well done, and the disc has a label on it. Very well done. I'll probably watch the concert itself in a day or so.
I was a little dissapointed with the ultimate petra cd though. I thought maybe there were gonna be notes with each song. But I think Bob just wrote a couple paragraphs with a brief history. Didn't have a chance to read it yet though.
Had to run to work.
