Petra "The Early Years" New Package Design

Post by petrabandca » Mon Sep 11, 2006 8:32 am

For all you hardcore collectors who care. Starsong released "The Early Years" again with a new cd cover. I personally like the new one better, but know that it is a cash grab!

Take a look and make a purchase if you're interested.

Pffft!

They need to redo the cover totally and do away with the picture that has John in it. All the songs on the album are sung by Greg!

I agree they should remove John. They must be trying to sell it using his rugged good looks and Yellow Jacket.

I don't know which record label is worse (between Star Song and Word) in the "Let's see how many greatest hits CDs we can foist on Petra fans" contest. They should've titled this album, WE WANT YOUR LAST REMAINING $$$.

Putting a Petra photo on the cover featuring John Schlitt is blatantly misleading to the consumer. Long-time fans will know that John never sang on those songs, but a new Petra fan might be really disappointed if he/she bought it expecting to hear John singing.

Plus, you could buy the WASHES WHITER THAN/NEVER SAY DIE dual disc for only 3 or 4 dollars more, and get more bang for your buck, as well (since all the songs on THE EARLY YEARS are from these 2 albums).

Now I have three albums with different artwork with exactly the same tracklist:

http://home.filternet.nl/~p.th.vanwinge ... its07.html

http://home.filternet.nl/~p.th.vanwinge ... its08.html

This is totally ridiculous...

Anyway, I've read somewhere that the original Early Years release is titled Volume 1. Mine is not. Is there anyone who really has a CD that says Petra - The Early Years Volume 1?

Vol. 1

Hmm. That "Volume 1" thing sounds really familiar. However, I just checked my CD and it says nothing about Volume 1 anywhere on the cover. I wonder where that came from?

Also, where did that Coloring Song CD come from? Is it an "international only" release?

The Coloring Song is a weird CD. I've shown it to Bob once and he also had no clue to what kind of release it was. It looks like it's for some kind of record club, since it's on EMI-Capitol Music Special Markets. I guess it's been made as a special promotion? But to be honest, I have no idea...

I bought mine on eBay. It's probably still available somewhere. I've seen it several times on eBay and also at GEMM.com.

And the Volume 1 thing is listed on Michael's Guide to Petra...

Volume 1

It's very possible that they changed the packaging later on to no longer say "Volume 1." I never bought a copy of it, but I know copies exist that say that; I wouldn't have put it on the site if I didn't see it with my own eyes. :)
