Petra and Christmas

Post by petrabandca » Wed Nov 28, 2007 1:08 pm

Why do you think Petra never did any Christmas music? I understand all the garbage commercial songs, but what about all those great traditional songs. Not to mention that Bob I'm sure could have written one killer song that would have captured the true meaning of Christmas.

Hey Sue...do you think John and Bob would ever put something together or would John on his own?

I've always wondered why...I guess if they choose not to as a form of protest than I can respect that totally!

What do you guy's think?

That could be a great Idea for II Guyz.... Classic Christmas Songs singing in unppluged version.... special christmas concerts on Dec...

Respect to Petra I thing that the only interest in that would be the really petheads.... no the public in general ... could be?

The songs that I always dreamed with Petra was classics hymns like "Onward Christans Soldiers" but more of them in one of the Praise Albums...

Blessings

PS: Just 4 days to them together again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what I remember, it just wasn't something that was high on the priority list.

I know John wouldn't have minded doing one... though he's said an EASTER album would be even more impacting than Christmas. How many artists have EASTER albums?

And really - without Easter, Christmas means nothing.
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins."

I too would love to hear a full album of classic hymns, done Bob-style.

jmatd, you are making everyone jealous - including me! - by counting down the days until you see Petra! :P

I book this show, for all practical purposes I'm acting manager of Petra for this show, and I don't get to go. I think I'll go whine... anyone have cheese? :P

This comes up every once in a while (for example: Christmas 2004 and Christmas 2005). The most commonly-stated reason is that Bob Hartman himself doesn't want to do a Christmas album. I think it would be cool... I'm a big Christmas music fan with dozens of Christmas CDs (870 tracks in my "Christmas" mp3 playlist and adding more every year!) I do think that at this particular point, it would not be a particularly wise move. A Christmas album seems to generally be done only when an artist is sort of... well, well-known. John Schlitt and II Guys are both somewhat under the radar at the moment. If the II Guys CD blows up when it's in general distribution next year, or if John's CD hits hard and he gets a single on the radio or something, then would be a better time for a Christmas recording. Unless it was just sort of done as a fanzy thing for us die-hards.

Yea me too. I jove christmas music. We're listening to it right now here in the dispatch center it really brightens the mood since you deal with all negative stuff all day. I would love to hear John sing O Holy Night and songs like that that would be so cool.

Down the corridor or life in between our death and birth
We may start to lose our way in the search to find our worth
Our value comes in the fact we live
Life is a gift only God can give

Don't forget "Mary's Song" from Washes Whiter Than. Not a Bob song (it's by Rob Frazier), but definitely recorded by Petra!
