Going to see the Golden Compass?
I for one find it hard to believe that Hollywood could produce something as overtly anti-Christian as The Golden Compass.

well...
My gut tells me there are anti-christian movies, and then there is this movie. It sounds to me like the writer so hates any form of Christianity that he would like to see a new America where the christian faith has been expunged. So, it's not merely about why he thinks Christianity is not for real, it's about hate and intolerance; in a society that is supposed to have religious freedom.
It would be one thing to produce a movie that refutes the basic beliefs of Christianity, but many anti-christian movies seem to promote hatred and intolerance, or add all sorts of details that are not found in the bible.
I suppose in a free speech society you can go ahead and make those movies. However, free speech dpes not equal freedom from consequence or reaction.

Of course they're not going to create a movie that simply refutes Christianity because they can't. Capital borrowers.

Surprisingly, the Catholic Church has given the movie a thumbs-up (sorta)! If you don't believe me, read it for yourself.

I'll probably wait until it gets to the $3 movie theater or until it comes out on DVD, but I'd like to see it, I'm sort of curious about what all the fuss is about. A review I read said it was boring.
The article and the blog are very good. I can understand why a Christian wouldn't want to contribute money to an atheist, but if we're afraid of a movie, we're giving the enemy more credit than he deserves. We're the winners, we need to believe that and live that way. People writing controversial books or making controversial films love any publicity they might get too, and screaming "it's evil, boycott it" gives them that publicity.
Just to be annoying and go off topic, I want to see Beowulf and Enchanted too.

re
I havent seen it but I will next wednesday.
I love literature and ya know what, if we wanna enjoy the story with got to make a "a fiction pact", that is watching the movie without judging, only, in that moment, believe what you are seeing, imagine is not a novel but a true story, enjoy it and that`s it.
the only way to enjoy a movie is getting inside of it, and also with books. just enjoy the film and that`s it.

reviews
All of the reviews I've seen have said that the movie itself falls flat... this is from not-Christian reviews, and even one reviewer who sounds like he is vaguely anti-religion himself. Apparently it's not especially good storytelling from a movie standpoint.

I know nothing about this film but that's not particularly surprising. You know that when a film is touted as "controversial", "important" or otherwise causing some furor, there's always a pretty fair chance it's really not that great a film. Certainly not good enough to stand on it's own merits.
Didn't you know this is how true art is made nowadays?

Re: reviews
This is ultimately why I did not go see it. I almost always scan reviews of movies I am interested in before I go to see them. If the movie gets mediocre or worse ratings, I usually won't pay to see it at the theaters.Michael wrote:All of the reviews I've seen have said that the movie itself falls flat... this is from not-Christian reviews, and even one reviewer who sounds like he is vaguely anti-religion himself.
