Guys, you need to listen to this interview - especially the last 1/2 hour, where John shares an amazing story about his casting out an evil spirit from a young girl following a Petra concert. He also discusses spiritual warfare that he's seen both in his life and others.
I surely wish there were 2000 views on THIS thread, rather than 200 (not quite).

Any time someone says "I (or someone I know) cast out an evil spirit", I immediately become skeptical.sue d. wrote:Guys, you need to listen to this interview - especially the last 1/2 hour, where John shares an amazing story about his casting out an evil spirit from a young girl following a Petra concert.

Isn't that sad that we have to be skeptical of something like that? I mean, it is kind of necessary. Anytime I hear someone say "God healed me" or "God gave me a miracle", I get an uneasy feeling.
So much of this has been bastadized by the snake oil sideshow salesmen like Bob Larson and others.
All I know is that you had better be on the top of your spiritual relationship with Christ. In the bible there is record of the demons going in/on the people that did not have the authority to cast them out.
So much of this is stuff that happens every day on radio and TV is Americanized, glorified power of suggestion, mind control, etc from both sides of the praying hands.

Like you said, Brent, it is necessary in this day and age to CHECK OUT if what is being said is true. Way too many false reports - either on purpose to glorify the 'preacher', or a healing or miracle done by the power of suggestion.
But in this instance, I have no doubt that what John saw was real. And I have no doubt that what he did was biblically correct as well.

Brent I was beginning to think that Bob Larson was a snake oil salesman as well until I saw a show called John Safran Vs God.. This dude John Safra an Austrailian comedian went all over the world to try everything from many different religions. He was bathed in goast blood in a voodoo ceremony. he took an oath to become a kkk member, stayed at a bhuddist monastary. Safran tried any and everything. his last stop was the US and he looked up Bob Larson...Larson ended up doing a serious exorcism on this dude and he was not the type of guy to fake what he was going through. I know that because I saw other episodes. Now I don't think that Larson is a cooky as I was beginning to believe. Maybe there is a youtube video on the safran vs god stuff I know that they used to play the show n the sundance channel and this was done around 2004. As for John casting out a demon and everyone being skeptical. I don;t think he would lie about something like this why would he?? what would he gain from it?? About the only thing I can think of that he would get would be criticism. especially from those here at the zone..maybe now we need to put the Schuller name as the middle name for John Schlitt......John Schuller Schlitt..almost sounds like a curse word if you say it really fast 5 times.

Let's let it go.
Look Cnd, can we let it go? I was very disturbed by John appearing on Schuller's program so I stated my case. Others explained why they didn't think it was a big deal. I dealt with objections as honestly as I could and, in the end, we had to agree to disagree. Does that now make us bitter rivals? Does any disagreement with something a former Petra member does or says mean that person is a bad guy at best and a fool at worst?
As far as casting out demons, most of the time I'm skeptical because of how sensationalistic a lot of Christians like to be. Look at the Left Behind series. People loved that series but I wonder how many have read every book but never read through The Revelation for themselves.
I don't think John is that way but I don't know him personally. I have known people who have experienced things like this as missionaries and, because I had a history with them and could see the testimony of their lives, I was inclined to believe it was true. For those of us who are likely to never know John personally, our opinion on his experience is kind of irrelevant.

I agree with you... I feel that way too. I'm with you on Left Behind as well... I don't agree with the premise of the books at all, but that's another theological debate that we won't get into.As far as casting out demons, most of the time I'm skeptical because of how sensationalistic a lot of Christians like to be.
I do , and I'll assure you he's not into sensationalism. But you too have heard and seen the testimony of his life... from afar, granted - but it is out there for all the world to see. I would think that would give him some credibility at least.I don't think John is that way but I don't know him personally
But in the whole scope of life it really doesn't matter if you believe it or not... just believe on Jesus Christ and HIS power to overcome evil!

I read the first 3 chapters of the book Left Behind and was bored out of my mind so I stopped reading. I guess I don't care much for LaHaye/Jenkins' style of writing (nor could I really understand it)
