Petra Show Ticket Sales
What a Shame!
That's too bad. I would have loved to see it and so would a lot of fans that lost interest in Petra after Greg left. I have met a bunch of former fans that loved Greg's pure vox and thought the band got too edgy with John. I don't agree with them but, rest assured, there are lots of them out there.
To be perfectly honest with you, I think there has to be more to it than just money with any of the line-ups. I can't imagine having that much of your life tied up in such an historic project as Petra and and not be able to take a week of your life to celebrate what God has done one more time. I would think just the opportunity to play one more time for their loyal fans, worldwide on the internet no less, would be and incredible thrill.
I highly doubt any of these guys are sitting around waiting for Meals on Wheels to show up because they just can't afford to get out of the house and buy food. They all travel. They all get around. Do you honestly believe they could not meet in Nashville and stay with friends for a week if they thought this was important?
For whatever reason, they just don't want to do it. Sad. But that's the only thing that makes sense to me.

God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him. - John Piper
PETRA IS DEAD D*E*A*D* DEAD!!!!
Petra is DEAD. The idea of PETRA is DEAD. The reunion is DEAD. Working together is DEAD, New music from them is DEAD. Working for money is DEAD. The illusion of Petra is DEAD.
EGO is ALIVE. MISDEEDS are ALIVE. Hurt Feelings are ALIVE. Mistrust is ALIVE. John, Bob, Louie, Johnny, Ronnie are ALIVE. Greg, Mark and Slick are ALIVE.
The dream is DEAD. R.I.P. PETRA or live in the NEGATIVE.
We are not allowed to know the reality of the situation but are expected to pay money for CD's, concert tickets, merchandise and the like from this group of guys who once called themselves PETRA. Well I'm with Brent it's over for me. If it smells like s*** and looks like s*** well then it must be s***. And thats all I hear out of these guys about each other. Just negative vibes but never the truth about any of it, but keep spending your money on us so we can minister to you...wink...wink.

Okay, I have a question...Do they not have the right to say "no" to something? And I don't know about anyone else, but I bought their CDs and went to their concerts (and still do when I can) because I wanted to, not because they asked me to or I felt they were required to let me in on everything that goes on with them.
Sure, ego, misdeeds, hurt feelings and mistrust may be alive, but that's something we all have to deal with, and I'm sure none of the rest of us feel it necessary to broadcast it on the Internet. And please don't say "they're called to a higher standard." Anyone who claims to be a Christian is called to a higher standard, and we shouldn't be expecting from them what we often can't or won't do ourselves.
From what I can tell, the reality is this is something the fans started and they don't want to take "no" for an answer. Enough is enough guys.

I think the interest is not big enough for a single reunion gig or a whole tour. So i don't think it will happen.
But you never know... With God nothing is impossible. Maybe they get a very good offer for a big festival like Cornerstone or something like that. If this would happen and enough money would flow, maybe there is a possibility. If it's possible for me, I would fly from Europe to the states to see them. We'll see...
Anyway, I think we shouldn't blame them. Don't destroy the rock and let us keep the legend alive.

1. It has been established that it will not happen.Toby wrote:I think the interest is not big enough for a single reunion gig or a whole tour. So i don't think it will happen.

2. I don't see what God has to do with it really. God is God. He is sovereign, but he DOES leave much of our choices to us. His will has been detailed in scripture. His will is that all men should be saved. We know few will. Those are Jesus' words. Let's not over spiritualize things here folks.
3. It is funny that people would rather not accept the truth so that their dreams can live. True the music will live for those that like it. But the truth is the truth. Petra was a band. Being in a band is like being married. Once the marriage splits, there is a willingness not to get back in and to move on, for whatever reason. So, it is not a matter of blame. It is what it is.

"...We bent our backs and pulled the oars to the beat of Louie's solo..."
And my point was.....
Look guys. I'm not saying they don't have a right to do whatever they want to do. My point was that all this talk about not being able to take a week away or that a one night show was not financially viable was just that.....talk! It is obvious that the real truth is that a person or persons, and I don't know or care who, does not want to do this. If they thought it was important, they would find a way.
To be honest with you, it's not really that important to me whether or not they do this. It just seems to me that with the level of loyalty their fans have shown, they would WANT to do something every so often out of gratitude if for no other reason.
Shell, after all these years of loving Petra are we really now going to reduce it to the level of consumerism? Yes, I know they produced a product that we all consumed, but it was much more than that. I'm being completely honest when I say the reason I remained as loyal for as long as I did was not primarily because of their style of music but because of their faithfulness to God's Word. I'm sure many of you feel the same way. Otherwise we would all look at Petra in the same way we may look at Boston or REO or any other band whose style we liked. I loved those bands as well, but I haven't purchased anything of their's since the late 70's.
Many of us absolutely DID support Petra and we did so because of our shared faith and convictions and our excitement over their faithfulness. Look at the number of fan driven web sites. Bands that have sold millions more records than Petra don't have that kind of crazy support after their glory days. Our bond of faith has just as much to do with Petra's success as their talent, if not more. Petra would have been a good band on the secular scene, but they would have never had the same level of success. Take away the messages that we all love and somehow the music becomes just pretty good music. Sorry to say it, but it's true.
So if you want to reduce my concerns to the level of a bad attitude, or whiny brat that just wants his way, go ahead. But that would be a very shallow understanding of why this bothers me.

My comments weren't directed at you, Bill. I didn't have a problem with your post, and I agree with the idea that people can usually manage to find time for what they want. I'd love a reunion concert too, I wasn't trying to say I wouldn't like to see that.
And now I believe it's time for me to just stay out of this one...

Having said all that I said above, I would have a hard time believing that John and Bob wouldn't want to do something eventually. Maybe they are the hold up but somehow I doubt it. John's willingness to have Greg X on the stage with him during the Farewell taping speaks volumes.
I also want to clarify what I said about the music being "pretty good". There is no question that Bob could play guitar on any stage with any band. We all know John was a commercial success before Petra. I do love Bob's songwriting. I just really believe that if you take away the message, which is what should excite the believer most, their music would have never reached the level in the secular arena that it did in CCM. Therein lies the reason why I believe their success comes with a greater responsibility than a secular band.
On a more positive note, I would love to see any of the later incarnations of Petra on stage again. I think the internet idea is fantastic. There could even be sponsors that supported it knowing that the message is going out worldwide. That way it wouldn't have to be done on such a low budget that the quality wasn't there. Soooooo.......any chance Greg and Pete are still up for it?
I would also love to see John and Bob produce more together. I really wonder what the II Guys project cost them. I love the fact that John is working on another project, but I can't believe Bob doesn't have anymore just waiting to spring forth from the well.
