Justin,

I have three recommendations for your Web site, which BTW I think you and Josh did a GREAT job on.

1. It's been kind of weird sending people to the site because the song tracks on the new CD aren't available on the "Merch" page, so if you visit the main page and click right over without scrolling down you might not figure out what the song titles are.

2. Lyrics. WHERE ARE THE LYRICS??? hehe Some songs I can make out the raps, some I can make out the sung vocals, and some (like Michael Sweet... 98% resonance with no consonants!) I can barely make out at all. Lyrics are expensive to put in liner notes, but much cheaper to put on your Web site.

3. What about compiling short biographies of the guest performers? I'm not talking about the "Mitch Malloy was born..." type of biographies, but more the kinds of things you would tell someone if they asked here. "John Schlitt was a founding member of mainstream rock band Head East in the 1970's, and after battling substance abuse became a Christian in the early 80's. In 1986 he joined Christian rock band Petra as lead singer after the departure of Greg X. Volz, and he remains Petra's lead singer today. He has also released two solo CDs." You could even link to their Web sites if they have them. I know there are several people on there that I have either never heard of, or wonder how they came to be on there (is THAT guy a CHRISTIAN?!?! etc.) and brief bios would be a cool addition. And you could continue to add them as new installments to the series appeared, eventually building up quite a batch of artist bios.

Hmm. Well, I'm a little embarrassed to say, because chances are one of the ones I'm not familiar with is one that EVERYBODY else is!

I've heard the name Mitch Malloy before but don't really know anything about him. I've heard of Harem Scarem before, but again, not familiar with any of their material. I don't recall Robert Fleischman's name, so I assume he is a recent frontman of Journey. And again, I've heard of Kentucky Headhunters but not really familiar with their stuff. It's odd, because we do listen to classic rock pretty often in the car, and I probably know songs from these guys but I just don't have a song in my head for the names. Others would probably have exactly the opposite reaction... "I know Journey and I know Harem Scarem and I know Head East, but what the heck is a 'One Bad Pig'???"

Oh, and I was surprised that you didn't put the word "Allies" next to Bob Carlisle's name, although "Butterfly Kisses" has probably been heard by more people all by itself than every Allies song ever recorded. 8-O

Thanks for the CD! One day I listened to the clip from the Web site of the original recording of "Bargain Bin" and it reminded me of a scene from the movie The Country Bears where the Bears (who are a classic rock/country group a la The Eagles) are in a diner and they are recognized by a waitress. She tells them that she is an up and coming vocalist herself, and she even does a cover of one of their songs, "Kick It Into Gear." The bears are like, that old song? Then you see a brief clip of the four bears singing this bluegrass-sounding song. She says something like, yeah, but I do it MY way... then she launches into this hot top 40 pop version and there's this whole dance number in the diner. I think at the end of the song the bears are just sitting there with their mouths hanging open. hehe Seems like the two versions of "Bargain Bin" might have a similar relationship!

Robert Fleischman was with Journey for quite a long time. He just spent a lot of time in Steve Perry's shadow.

I don't know if he's still with the group or not.

I've head of Harem Scarem, One Bad Pig and The Kentucky Headhunters, but I'm not familiar with their music.

One Bad Pig is a Christian thrash metal / speed metal band that peaked in the late 80's. I had one of their CDs which the first track was bad... had to skip to the second song and everything else played okay. They weren't too bad if you're into that kind of thing. My son liked it, he was 4 or 5 when he started listening to it. He eventually broke it.

If only I'd known back then how much I would wish I still had all those old CDs and cassettes!! Too many of them got away or destroyed.

One Bad Pig ws a real punk band, but Paul Q Pek's solo album was a/c
and it was very good.

Yeah, OBP was hardcore! Not only was it some of the loudest brashest rock I think I've ever heard in CCM, but the message was super-strong. They had a "Here I Am Lord, Send Me!" song that would fry your shoelaces. There was another song called "We Want You" (basically, "We want you to meet Jesus tonight") that ended, ON THE CD, with what amounted to about a 30-second sermonette about what it means to be saved.

Plus, they did a punk cover of "Man In Black" that actually had Johnny Cash in it! And they had a punk cover of "Judas' Kiss" that featured a guitar solo by a guitar player named Bob that I'm sure nobody here has ever heard of...

Liner notes rock! Even if I don't really care for the artist or know anything about them, I still like to read the liner notes. My family is mentioned twice in the liner notes on Double Take.

Oh, I didn't mean 'forget me,' as in forget to list me in the liner notes. I wouldn't say something like that in public!

I meant 'forget me' as in he didn't send ME a copy of the CD yet! I still haven't heard it!

Ah, but that's typical... those involved are always last in line!

(I was never given a copy of J&H and I'm sure the spanish version won't come my way either.... sigh.....)
