Pulse Performance
I can't believe nobody has posted anything yet about the performance on World Pulse Festival yesterday. We weren't there (Indiana is a long way from Oklahoma) but we saw the two tiny songs they showed on TV... "Beyond Belief" and I think "Lord I Lift Your Name On High." They were SMOKIN!!! They also showed a brief interview segment with Bob, John, and Greg B. It was some good publicity for Petra. They outplayed a lot of the other bands on the show! I couldn't believe it... they gave Third Day like 20 minutes' worth of airtime. We just turned it way down and prayed for more Petra! It did give me a chance to realize what Third Day sounds like, though... I realized that most third day songs sound like a guy mumbling under his breath, half asleep, that he doesn't want to get up, with his alarm clock going off in the background.

Petra at tWorld Pulse
I live in Ann Arbor, MI. I really wanted to go bad. Petra is my favorite band. But I couldn't make it. I am having surgery on my leg in Sept. 13. I can't stand on it a long time. But I seen it on satellite. Petra by far was the best. I like Third Day but sometimes you can't understand them. They mumble sometimes when they sing.

To save some of you time, about an hour is correct (59:20). The sound is awesome, but the picture is less than 100% though certainly do-able. Perhaps a better copy is out there somewhere? "It is Finished!" Are you kidding me!?!? I've always wondered how it would sound with John, now I know. I like it.

I just played Petra's part of the video, and all I can say is that it is so awesome to see these guys out there playing and having a ball. John's voice was as good as ever... pure rock and roll rasp. Yes, John can still wail like he did in the '80s!
It was especially good to see Bob out there with the band again. Although I've been a Petra fan for years, my interest faded during the 90's when Bob was on haitus. I have always felt that Bob's presence in the band is the heart of what makes Petra tick.
What impressed me the most were 2 things:
1. When they played the medley and got to "It Is Finished", a song from the Greg Volz era, it demonstrated to me that John can sing those old GXV songs and these guys can play them in their new modern rock context, and they sound GREAT!! It left me demanding more, more, more of those old songs from WWT through BTS. Honestly, if they don't record those old songs again with their new lineup, Petra will miss an awesome opportunity to bless fans who have followed them for years and love the new sound.
2. If you want to hear guitar solos again, you have to go to a concert. Seriously, it was great to hear the solos. Since solos are making a comeback, I hope there are more of them in the next CD.
3. Though I thought Petra's segment was great overall, the opening with "Test of Time" was good during the intro, but as the song opened up it seemed out of place, perhaps a bit weak for an opening song. It just didn't have that *knock me down punch* they've had in previous years. They really needed something else to set the expectation for what was to come throughout the set. "It's All About Who You Know" would have been a much better song to start with, in my opinion, since it flows a lot smoother, has a fuller sound, and is less choppy than "Test of Time".

I was there and one of the lucky down-front Petheads. (I'm the one with the '86 tour jacket, who also ended up with a drumstick from Paul!)
Petra has certainly shown that they can still rock, even at 11 in the morning LOL! We had a great time. Plus, seeing Lonnie with Tait was a little added bonus... We observed him enjoying the Petra set as well
Unfortunately, I am on WebTV, so I cannot see the archive of the festival online. If anyone can burn me the Petra and Tait portions of the program, I will gladly reimburse you...
I do have my own write up and the setlists for Petra and Tait on my livejournal (look for Saturday and Sunday's entries).
It was fun seeing some of you other Petheads again, too.
