Okay, you're not required to like the movie, Rich; not everyone will care for it. But you're missing the point...David is right, all the crucifiction was about was gore and violence, and most of the movies sugarcoat how violent it was. What Mel is trying to get across was how Jesus suffered when He died, I think too many of us in the 21st century have trouble comprehending that. God can use people who are less than perfect to get His message out, Rich.
Mel was a hoot in the Lethal Weapon movies by the way, and he was pretty funny in What Women Want. Only he could have gotten away with doing that movie and not been labeled a sexist pig, LOL. He was pretty funny in Maverick too.

I'm not missing any point shell. Dave is wrong. I dont understand you guys. Doesn't the Word of God mean anything to you. Have any of you opened it up and read the Gospels. Can you give me scripture where God goes into detail about the crucifixion.Shell wrote:Okay, you're not required to like the movie, Rich; not everyone will care for it. I know it was brutal but God choose to give us only the amount of information he wanted us to have. I dont care how many documents there are about what crucifixion is and what it consists of..I know what it consists of. I know what the Bible tells me. I care more about what the Bible tells me which was inspired my God then some movie made by man.

I think we all know what Mel has done, so what, not one of us is perfect in the zone. Why are you so mad about this movie? Guess you don't like what Stephan Baldwin is doing either,he was in some pretty bad movies, but oh yeah it seems that he can't reach people by his testimony cause he was bad. I can tell you that I could go make a movie I guess and you would not watch it cause of my past either, and I would only be wanting to lead people to the Lord. Mel did produce the movie out of his own money. I don't think it was on his mind to go and make millions of dollars. But I think now that it has been done more movies whould be done like that. TO get something out there about our Savior no matter how it is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Easy Johnathan, he's right to be concerned that a movie about Jesus is accurate.
You're not listening to reason though amigo; you're too focused on having to be right. A little analysis from a historical perspective: (I LOVE being an English lit major
) The Gospels were written with people in mind who had probably seen crucifiction for themselves and knew how brutal it was. Crucifiction was a part of the culture when the Gospels were written, and the writers probably didn't feel it was necessary to go into a whole lot of detail about something that was understood. How brutal crucifiction was would be harder to comprehend today, thousands of years later, by people who have never seen it.
What's really important when all is said and done is that he died and rose again for us, and that's what the movie is about.

Okay now, Rich - comments like this are over the top. Who do you think you are to challenge my allegiance to Scripture? For your information, I HAVE READ THE GOSPELS, and that's how I know the central theme of The Passion is scripturally accurate. And I've read enough about that period of time - even taken a college class on it - to know what crucifixions were like. So before you start judging others who are educated in these matters, you might want to read the New Testament yourself and study some church history before you start throwing accusations around.PetfanInCt wrote:I dont understand you guys. Passion
PetfanInCt,
2 Corinthians 13
5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test?
I fear you are in danger of being like the Religious Leaders in Jesus' day. You see God treated Jesus on the cross as if he had lived your life, and if you have repented of your sins and put your faith in Jesus, God treats you as if you had lived Jesus' life.
Do you think you are more like Adolph Hitler or Jesus Christ?
If you say Jesus, then read :
Jeremiah 17
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Also, the Word of God does describe Jesus' brutal violent death:
Isaiah 52
14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
Sounds more violent to me than any torture you have ever even dreamed of, at least according to God's Holy Word. Jesus was totally hamburger meat for you, man. That is what you and I deserved, let it break your heart into.
2 Corinthians 13

Dave I'll challenge ya anytime. It doesnt matter how many classes you've taken or what you've read about church history.LexingtonPethead wrote:Okay now, Rich - comments like this are over the top. The cheesy movies you are referring to also have dramatic additions that are not found in scripture. Actually, others posting in this thread have already pointed out a few. Why do you find it necessary to single out The Passion? Because it was successful?PetfanInCt wrote:Dave I'll challenge ya anytime. Are you prejudiced against Catholics? What is it? Why are you so against this film when the cheesy ones you say you'd rather watch are just as "errant"?

As an aside, the Jews did not have anything to do with the actual scourging, the carrying of the cross, the crucifixion and so on. That was totally in the hands of the Roman soldiers.
Q. In the movie Jesus was caned 32 times, before being scourged. Is that in the Bible?
A. No. It is not Biblically accurate and changes the Word of God.
roman history also says that the scouring was 40 lashes to the back
The movie is false. and is not the Gospel of Jesus, but of Mel Gibson

What I'm wondering is why you're so fixated on everyone else feeling the same way about the movie you do. It's fine for you to have problems with it, but it's not right for you expect everyone else to feel the same way you do.
I did read some of the articles in the link you posted, by the way, and although they do raise some valid concerns, the guy who wrote most of that stuff didn't bother to go see the movie. He had other people go see it for him and relied on the information he got from them to write the articles. If I wrote a paper for my English classes and let someone else do the research for me, my teachers would flunk my rear back to high school English, and they'd be right to do so. It's not a good idea to write an article or paper and not do the research yourself.
I seem to recall that a lot of people thought Petra's music was satanic, and that didn't stop God from using their music to touch people.

Re: Passion
Okay, Rich. I say it's time for you to read the New Testament account of the crucifixion. Then, you need to study Roman customs of that time and how crucifixions were done to fill in the gaps (the New Testament does not go into FULL, illicit detail).PetfanInCt wrote: Jesus did suffer alot, just not the way mel portrayed it
With a statement like the one you've made above, I'd say you haven't read, or at least not comprehended, what the New Testament says about Jesus' crucifixion, nor the historical account of the event. Otherwise, you couldn't make that kind of statement, except for that you don't really understand what happened.
