Petra fan sites Webmasters

Post by PetfanInCt » Tue Sep 28, 2004 8:08 pm

To the webmaster of Petra sites on on the Zone. You all do fine work. Looks like much work is put into them. I have a question. What software do you use to create the sites....

Guide to Petra

Post by Michael » Wed Sep 29, 2004 8:53 am

The Guide to Petra is all hand-coded using php and MySQL. Actually... I've used a few components that I've gotten from the Web for specific things (sending emails, etc.) but most of it is my own programming. The same goes for Sue's John Schlitt site and Sam's site. Sue and I have talked about moving to one of the portals from http://www.opensourcecms.com/, but we haven't decided on anything.

Creation

When I built www.johnwschlitt.com, I used Dreamweaver 4.

It's pretty easy to use, especially if you have a little HTML knowledge to begin with.

I use a free editor called Arachnophilia. If money wasn't so tight, I'd get something more elaborate.

I have something that does HTML, PHP, CSS, etc. called TopStyle Pro but I haven't worked with it to be comfortable as my primary package.

I used to write .html directly, using Notepad. There are lots of websites around with all the special codes. I don't use any editor, because they always put in some unnecessary code that will only slow down the website.
