The fact that Petra's website has not been touched (up-dated) in a year or the average of 2 gigs a month should have given anyone a pretty good indication that all good things must come to an end. These guys have to eat! Keep in mind, too, that Wayne Saboa is the WORST manager in the history of man. He has represented Petra SO badly it's a shame that they even hooked up with him in the first place. He has cost them MANY dates and I know, first-hand, haven spoken to quite a few promoters...especially in Europe. No one wants to work with him.
Having said all that, of course we will miss the AWESOMENESS of Petra. They were one in a million. Just be thankful that you have all of the albums there if you wanta reminisce. I don't believe there will be another band like them. In their prime, they were untouchable. Thanks, Petra, for blessing our lives as much as you did!
Is Anyone REALLY surprised?

it having been tasted....
Yeah, these things have to happen sometime. It's not like we've lost our salvation. It's not like we're condemned to hell for sure. It's not like Jesus decided not to die on the cross. It's not even like we're forced to join the army and fight in Iraq. It's not like we've all been captured and thrown in prison. It's not like we're bankrupt. It's not nearly that bad.
Sure, it's easy for me to say "don't get so upset about Petra's retiring," but for some reason the news of Petra retiring doesn't affect me quite as much as the news that they've decided against making a new album. Now that I don't like - I wanted to hear more new Petra music. More Petra albums! I didn't think that Jekyll and Hyde was gonna be their last album. But then, I should look on the bright side: at least Petra ended their discography with something creative and exciting, something hard rokk! instead of a softie, boring album like Revival or Double Take. For that fact I'm very happy.
(Don't get me wrong; I didn't say I wanted Petra to retire - but just that I expected it to happen soon. So like brainchild, it doesn't surprise me too much either.)
