PETRA ... SUPERGROUP?!?!?!

Post by rbnewsdesk » Tue Sep 20, 2005 4:12 am

Funny as this sounds, while typing a previous post of musicians that have played for Petra and their roles, my weird though process of "if Louie was just a live drummer for most of his Petra career, does this mean Peter Furrer should be considered one of Petra's drummers and therefore an honorary member" to "Hey maybe Peter can be Petra's new drummer backing vocals and bring Phil Joel on bass along after Greg and Matt get done with their Petra "retirement" gig and join Newsboys full time" to "How about the next time Petra gets together post "retirement" that we just do a supergroup line-up like say the current tour with Queen and Paul Rodgers" or a few years back when Stipe and REM sat down with members of U2 for a tv special and performed songs together.

So with that scenario set, Petheads, if you were to put together a Petra based supergroup ... one that had to have at least two musicans/singers from existing and well known Christian Rock/Pop bands outside of Petra that would join your choice of at least (perhaps more) Petra alums for both touring purposes and perhaps a studio or live CD, what would that group look like and why?

An example would be the one I just shared. Think John and Bob holding down the Petra mantle in a live post retirement show but joined by Peter Furrer, Phil Joel, and lets say special guest John Lawry on keyboards. Could be interested getting a harmony going you dont hear on a lot of Petra albums. Another thought, John and Bob are joined by an unusual trio of guest ... Larry Mullen, Adam Clayton, and the Edge ... Adam says he would behave for one night, Edge said he would be happy just to play keys and let Bob handle guitar duties (except for the duel guitars on "When Love Comes to Town"), and turn UP the bass section. And my wild band combo for the night ...wondered what would happen if Petra got the horn section from O.C. Supertones in for an evening...would we have Chicago or Brian Setzer Orchestra? :D Just some thoughts. What might yours be?

I'd like to see Scott Stapp (ex-singer from CREED) do some vocals on some petra songs. That's not to take away from sclittsy.
