Petrafied & Petrafied II

Post by petrafreak2009 » Sat Jul 03, 2010 10:43 am

Let's just say... just say it with me... that one of the 3 albums Classic Petra will release will be a cover album, sort of like what Stryper is doing. A lot of bands (that I've heard, remember I'm only 20) back in the 60's-70's and 90's used only one guitarist, and these are the bands most Petra fans would be familiar with. What songs and bands would you (if you were the band) would you include?
Now let's also say that John Schlitt and Petra later do a cover album as well. What songs or bands would you have this form of the band cover?

I don't think Petra would be as open as Stryper is to many of the songs they're using on their upcoming cover album, but if I had to choose some songs...this would be my list.

Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
Carry on My Wayward Son - Kansas
Come Sail Away - Styx
Turn! Turn! Turn! - The Byrds
We're An American Band (Grand Funk Railroad)...I'm Canadian, but this could be rockin' for Petra
God Gave Rock & Roll to You (Petra)...An updated version.
Why Don't You Look Into Jesus (Larry Norman) or any Larry Norman song would be awesome!
Jesus is Just Alright (The Doobie Brothers)
Forever Young (Rod Stewart) I've always thought John's voice sounded a lot like Rod's
He's Some Kind of Wonderful (Mark Farner)...The Christian verison
I Want to Know What Love Is (Foreigner)

These are just a few that come to mind...Petra's just not that type of band to do a cover album, but it's fun to imagine.
I always wanted them to do a rock Christmas album, but we all know that will never happen either.
