Carman

Post by shawnpfan2010 » Fri Apr 08, 2011 12:51 pm

Hey guys, I was just curious what you thought about Carman? I like some of his music, but so much of it was kind of cheesy, and sounded like it was written only to make a music video, you know what I mean?

Wow - haven't heard that name in a long time. I loved that Halloween song back then, can't remember any others right now.

I thought it was hilarious when he went into suspended animation to wake up in the future because he couldn't wait three weeks for the Nintendo Wii to be released, and then wakes up in the year 2546.

The Christian Italian mafia? Kiddin'. He is a nice guy. He is a Word of Faith'er. So, if you like that, and that sits well with you, then enjoy. I have issues with some of his lyrics.

I know people that were on his road crew forever, and my old sound company installed the studio gear and home entertainment in his house and pool in Tulsa. His business practices were honorable and he took care of people that took care of him. He had a close accountant friend nearly bankrupt him. The guy went to prison. But, Carman did the Christian thing and made up, helped him out, and even put him on TV with him.

Carman was doing some cool things production wise that were a bit before the times. His band, dancers and singers were basically fakin' it on stage. He carted around multi-track recorders (big ole' analog machines back in the day) and mixed all tracks while he sang. They had a couple of players but for the most part, it was all fake band/singers. Again, taking care of people around him, he used people close to ORU, Higher Dimensions Church in Tulsa, etc.

He did some good work. He gave the Christian gals something to go nutty over.

I should have liked him because he's Jersey, but it was all a bit too Barney for me. The obsessive fawning of the Charismatic crowd was kind of a turn off too. Just sayin.

ugh. At the time his shows were among the biggest and his videos looked the sharpest, but musically he was the lamest.

My first wife was a huge Carman fan...she had most of his albums.

For her birthday one year, I took her to see him live in concert at the Omaha Civic Center. Somehow I was able to get us backstage after the show and she got to meet him...she was darn near hyperventilating. He talked to us for about 10 minutes and I took a photo of them together. I remember thinking, "I hope this pic isn't blurry, or she's gonna kill me!". The photo turned out just fine, thank God!

Musically, not my cup of tea. I liked a few of his songs (including "Our Turn Now" featuring Petra), but that's about it.

That was great Jonathan. Especially the end where he still wouldn't believe himself and everything kept changing around him.

Nice one my friend. Way to sneak that one in.... ;)

HA! Charlene Lewis....she used her real air name. She was originally at Love98, KCFO in Tulsa, and then later went to KXOJ 100.9 in Tulsa. Nice lady.

I like some of his stuff, like Witch's Invitation and My Turn Now and a few others. His videos were well done. The Champion is a good album. He's not one of my all time favorites, but I've been to a few of his concerts and enjoyed them. I saw him at a couple of music festivals a number of years ago and at a concert in L.A. a few years ago.

And of course, his being nice looking is a plus. (Sorry, couldn't resist). Different strokes for different folks.

And then comes Daniel with a reference many won't get. Nice one Dano!

Personally I loved Carman. His early to mid career albums were very diverse. Then unfortunately Carman discovered Rap. It used to be Carman had several different styles of music on an album, and then it went to being all techno, rap cheese. That's when he lost me. Riot was the last Carman CD I bought and that was one too many. The Standard was the last "good" thing he did. Addicted to Jesus was brilliant! Revival in the land was tremendous. Radically Saved was a gem and my first Christian concert. The Champion is Classic!

For all those saying "I wasn't into him" there were tons who were, and maybe they just don't want to admit it now.
