Guardian's new project.
Guardian's new project.
Saw this the other day on the Guardian website if anyone is interested:

I'd love to see a new project from these guys. This should be a great year for rock. A new album from John, Petra, and possibly Guardian.

I read that Stryper did kill it vocally on the rock cruise. That was good for them. Here is a link to Eddie Trunks site: http://eddietrunk.com/index.cfm/pk/view ... pid/401816

I'm not really tired of Stryper but the same excitement that I had for them back in the day is not there. Their last few all new material albums were average and each had about 3 strong songs on them.

I think Murder by Pride is a lot better than most of their old stuff actually.executioner wrote:I'm not really tired of Stryper but the same excitement that I had for them back in the day is not there. Their last few all new material albums were average and each had about 3 strong songs on them.

Re: Guardian's new project.
I would agree that MBP is a good Stryper record. The previous record was written by Michael for Michael, for the most part. The guys just came in to play. MBP seems to be more Stryperfied. It will always be hard for bands like Stryper to impress me now, because musically their genre is dated and I am not the same person I was when they hit the scene. The world is not shocked by them anymore, and neither is the church, so it is not as cool and/or risky as it once was. The time to make musical impressions on males is very short, and happened long ago for me. Someone has to be very good and very honest for me to feel it and buy their music. When I watch Stryper live, the vibe doesn't resonate with me like it did. I am doing more of a comparison in my mind between what the albums sound like, what they used to pull off live and what they can do now. I get distracted. Stryper still plays well. They are very rehearsed. I like that about them. I just don't know what they can do for someone like me that hasn't been done already. I think they were searching and that is why they did MBP and the covers album.

Re: Guardian's new project.
Guardian-Looking back I really enjoyed Miracle Mile and Buzz. It took a few listen before I liked Buzz but I seem to remember a couple tracks that were outstanding. I recently revisited the debut album and it is pretty good too. That's about all I ever heard from Guardian. I did not like the Stryper album they did. I remember really liking the lead guitarist- TOny Palacios? I think he toured with MWS for a while.
As for Stryper- I can't wait to hear new music from them. Musically they have really matured compared to the stuff in the 80's. I think the Against the Law album is their best overall body of work. Lyrically Stryper has not progressed much. Simple and predictable themes for the most part. I'm pleased with he sound of the band and happy to be getting new material from them. I did not like Stryper in the 80's. I liked Sweets debut solo album and later the Reborn album was the turning point for me- some really well crafted tunes there.

I liked Michael Sweets solo stuff. I did not like the drum machine sounds, but the music itself is great. Truth was awesome.

Wow! Go figure. Suddenly, Guardian is up to 27,000 of the needed 30,000. They've raised some 7,000 in the last 2 hours and they have 5 hours to go. This may actually happen. The prospect is finally looking good enough that I went ahead and signed on.

Very happy to wake up and see that they made it. They raised over $10,000 in 7 hours last night. Incredible!

Re: Guardian's new project.
Probably about the only artist I would get involved with in Kickstarter would be Petra or John; my music budget is very tight. In the last 3 yrs the only music I've bought brand new was ClassicPetra CD & DVD and The Greater Cause. All my other music I've bought at local thrift shops, Half Price Books, and online through Amazon's used section. I avoid MP3 and DL music because it sounds horrible.

Re: Guardian's new project.
I for one, was happy to see the project fully funded. Surprised at how much came in at the last second. They're a really good band and I was hoping they would get some traction for another album. I never thought I'd see a day come to where bands with history and notoriety like Guardian, or John for that matter would have to go the route of independently funded projects because record companies won't put up the money. What the hey....they're getting it done regardless and I'm glad to see it.
