New Songs from Bob

Post by Preacherman777 » Wed Feb 13, 2008 10:43 am

I'm curious if anyone knows anything or has heard anything regarding whether or not Bob will continue to write and produce songs in some way shape or form now that Petra is retired?

It probably depends on how well Vertical Expressions sold. I believe John said it did sell well in one of his newsletters, but I could be mistaken.

VE?

Honestly, I was really disappointed that VE didn't include any of Bob's original work. Although I like the CD, I find his writing much more satisfying than all of these 7-11 praise songs. You know, the same 7 words sung 11 times.

Anyway, sales of VE should be irrelevant to Bob continuing to write. I was surprised nothing of his appeared on John's new CD, or at least a collarboration or two. I've also wondered why Bob doesn't write for anyone else other than Petra related. I just think he's at the top of the list of Christian song writers. Others may have written a chart topper or two that also had incredible depth. However, I can't think of anyone that has written the volume of great stuff Bob has.

Bob has only written two songs for another band than Petra. Both songs were recorded by Mastedon.

I believe when it comes to Bob's songwriting that he only released songs that he really believes in.

Well, that's the way I feel about. Bob is way too good a song writer to just not write songs anymore. Besides, being a song writer myself I think it's an outlet for most of us and I just can't imagine no longer using that outlet. I'll bet he's still writing songs, it's just question of whether or not we'll ever get to hear them.

Bob has been a good writer. But, you don't just turn creativity on and off like a faucet. If he has something killer, I bet he get's it down on paper/hard-drive or shopped to the right people.

There were two songs that Greg had heard, to be used on the Petra CD to follow J&H. Greg said that they were killer, and possibly the best things he had done in a long time.

It's kind of depressing to hear that when one has to wonder if we will ever hear them. I know he wouldn't come back to do anything that is less than killer, but I'm sure he's still quite capable of that.
