ROBOTS!! Attach of the Tech!!
ROBOTS!!!! They are here to take our jobs, steal our women, and kill every man on the planet!
Over 30 years ago this week the first human ever killed by a robot breathed his last breath at that fateful Ford Plant.
Technology has increased in amazing leaps and bounds in the last 100 years. The fact that many will download this episode as a podcast is a testament to that. That fact that we have an online radio show at all also proves that point.
Can some of this every growing tech be bad? What about the fact that each of us is now trackable thanks to the tech in our phones, cars, computers. Are we really safe? What about the prophecy guys who claim it is all part of a scheme to be used in the end times to hunt and kill Christians. Is it some far fetched story, or a growing reality?
Will we ever be happy with the cell phone we have?
Enosh and Mike have some geeky tech fun this week. Plus a visit from new intern Sam, who shares his family's history and home town. Music, humor, Jrock Reveals more about what that island is he landed on, and more on this week's ROCK SHOW!

I'm not sure I would agree that he was the first human ever killed by a robot. It sort of depends on your definition of "robot".Enosh wrote:Over 30 years ago this week the first human ever killed by a robot breathed his last breath at that fateful Ford Plant.
In WWII the Germans had a weapon known as the "V1 Buzz Bomb". It was the first true "cruise missile". Just as a modern Tomahawk cruise missile is a robotic plane carrying a big bomb, that was essentially what the V1 was.
A Tomahawk uses GPS and microprocessing technology to guide itself to it's target with incredible precision. The V1 came along before the invention of the microprocessor or GPS, but it did have a very primitive method of automatically guiding itself to it's target.
On the front of the device was a little propeller that spun as the bomb flew. An analog computer counted the number of times the propeller turned. When it had turned the number of times that had been calculated for it to reach it's target, it shut of it's engines and fell to the ground.
A Tomahawk can be targeted to a specific room in a specific building. The V1 ... well, you aimed for a CITY, and were glad if you hit it.
Now would you consider that a robot? I guess it's a little vague, but it's certainly the beginnings of military robots killing people.
The incident at the Ford plant, however, was probably the first incident of an automated non-military robot killing people.
(On a related note, the German V2 Rocket Bomb was the first true ballistic missile, which actually left the atmosphere before falling on it's target. It could be fired from Germany and hit London. So, even though they seldom get credit for it, the Nazi's were the first to put a man-made object in space. And of course, it WOULD be a weapon.

Interesting info and food for thought, Knot.
I guess there are different ways you can look at what a robot is. I don't know if I would consider a missile a robot though. It does have to be programmed, but I don't think of my computer as robot carrying out tasks.
Sounds like we may have to do a whole new episode on robots now. You could be a guest and explain your point.
