Hi Sue and Everyone!

I LOVE TGC!! As with any album, there are a couple of songs I don't care for, but what a GREAT job overall by John! This is his best work ever on a solo album, IMO. Some of the songs sound as good as Petra did - which I didn't expect from a solo album without the John/Bob collaboration.

I'd vote for "Take Me Home" as the one to release to Rock Radio. What a slick rock sound! "Hope That Saves the World" would also be a good choice.

"Where I Want to Be" and "The Cross Remains" are the only two I don't care for.

I also think John needs to offer "Faith & Freedom" to the Rick Santorum presidential campaign to use at events with a huge American flag in the background. I'm not kidding at all. I'm going to suggest this to Santorum and directly to John. What a perfect match with Santorum's message. I know everyone has his own political opinions - that's fine. This is mine! :)

I like "Take Me Home" or "End of These Days". I think either of these could be released to Christian or secular rock radio and do well.

If you were to pick one song from "The Greater Cause" for ROCK RADIO which one would it be?
Prioritized order:

1. Hope that saves the world
2. Run
3. Love won't leave me alone

I figured this question would get a better response here than the posting on Facebook. So far the Facebook replies are as follows:

Faith and Freedom
First Love
Live It Loud or Take Me Home (my entry)
Dallas TX

I'm guessing that "Dallas TX" must be a bonus track or something. I didn't have that one on my download.

There's more responses than that on FB... John has 2 FB sites, plus he posts on the Petra page as well. Lots more than 4 responses....

Sue, how about John doing a live CD and DVD so we can have a concert recording of songs from all 4 of his albums?

Music video.... it's been a thought. If we could enlist the same man (Andrew Manzano) who did The Grafting vid - it would be a first-class product.

As far as a live recording & DVD -- anything is possible! Pray on it! This CD MUST go places!

Will John be pushing any singles at secular radio?

It sounds like this record is not very Christian radio friendly, which is a good thing. The people that listen to John aren't listening there I would wager. The problem John will have in the secular world is that he would likely be marketed to 40 plus stations, which are mostly classic rock. The classic rock stations don't play new songs from old artists. They play the same old crap over and over again.

Radio airplay on secular stations might require a new Kickstart campaign. Seriously, it might be a good idea to try. Airplay requires hiring a rep to be the go between and move the cash from the artist/label's hands to the station PD's. If anyone thinks this no longer is the case, think again. Cash, favors and "benefits" are the ONLY way to get songs on the rotation. Artists can join these little nobody submission services, but they are a waste of money. Submitted songs are thrown away or deleted from the digital playlist on a whim. Stations will only play what they think people will want to hear, and that is a well researched, small, list of songs.

Here is a good article for ya' from NPR.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2011/07/ ... a-hit-song

Here is the key quote:

"But it's not a hit until everybody hears it. How much does that cost?

About $1 million, according to Daniels, Riddick and other industry insiders.

"The reason it costs so much," Daniels says, "is because I need everything to click at once. You want them to turn on the radio and hear Rihanna, turn on BET and see Rihanna, walk down the street and see a poster of Rihanna, look on Billboard, the iTunes chart, I want you to see Rihanna first. All of that costs."

That's what a hit song is: It's everywhere you look. To get it there, the label pays."

One of my fav stories was a J-Lo screw up, where the people were paid money and released reviews and the predetermined radio charting, weeks before the song was mixed and mastered. Buhwawawawa. Yeah, everyone is touting the age of the indie. Screw that. I want to get someone else to front the money. I don't have it. John doesn't have it. You guys don't have it.
