Hehehehe.... no. He was cool about it, and thought it was pretty neat, actually.
As the day progressed - yes, he felt better.
I look at it this way (and I can say this, because I'm starting to have a mid-life crisis about turning 50 -- and I'm not even there yet): it's only a NUMBER. It doesn't change who you are, or what you feel. You're not suddenly OLD because one day you're one age, and the next day you're another.
Like the saying goes - you're as old as you feel! (and I'm feeling pretty healthy & chipper!).

Yeah, I hit the Big 5-0 a couple years ago. I was feeling that mid-life crisis too. It was the first decade birthday where I felt like, "Ok, this isn't funny anymore." I never even got used to being 40, and there I was turning 50! Some friends said the same thing to me that you said: it's just a number. Then, after the birthday - life goes on as usual, and I'm STILL not used to being 40 yet...Petra and the treadmill keep me feeling young. : ) As for John, I think he will always be young.
